Converting to Fontself in Illustrator

When I create a font with Fontself, does it retain the stroke of the glyphs are does it convert those strokes to outlines as it creates the font; or does it retain the stroke?

The reason I ask is that I converted one of the fonts I created to outlines and there were a lot more points on the outline than I would have expected from an original glyph that contained a simple stroke.

All strokes are converted as outlines, this is by design to ensure consistency.

Can you speak to the addition of so many points once it has been converted to outline? In this example there is: the original stroked glyph, that glyph converted to outlines, the font created by Fontself, that font converted to outlines.

As you can see from the example, there are many more points on the font conversion than the original glyph. Is there any way to retain the stroke, or at the very least minimize the amount of points introduced into the curve of these glyphs?

Please send the source AI file and exported OTF to hello@fontself.com for further analysis.

Thanks @designomatt we looked at the OTF font file you exported in Fontself, path points are where they look on your clean design on the left. So to try replicating the problem, we loaded the font in Illustrator and outlined the text. As you can see below, the path points are where they should be, so could you please explain how you got the problematic path points ?

@franz the illustration I attached is from the outline of the same OTF that I shared with you via email. My machine is an iMac M3 running Tahoe and Illustrator v.30.0.0.

This is strange, the same AI version produces clean outlines on our Mac, not sure why you have a different result. Can you confirm you just select the text, and press Type > Create Outlines ?

I created a new document and used Create Outlines as well as Expand on the letterforms.

This is how your font looks like in FontForge, the data is correct. So can only advise you to contact Adobe to ask them why your specific version of Illustrator creates extra points when outlining (we’re not aware of any other options that could explain this).
