Advice creating a brush font with detail

Hey there,

I’m looking to create my first font and would like it to be a brush font showing all the detail of the brush strokes and transparency. Like this font for example - https://creativemarket.com/helloimgreg/1879750-Pure-Heart-OpenType-SVG-Brush-Font

What would be the best way of capturing this type of detail? Would I create the letters using a brush on a clear transparent sheet and then scan it before importing it to photoshop or illustrator?
