Any base font to derive from?

I am creating fonts for teachers. Some of the characters are custom and I have to leave other characters intact.

So, is there anyway I can use any base font (without any copyright issue) and replace only the custom characters I need?

Hello RajeshkannanVRYN, welcome to this forum.

There are a lot of fonts, that can be used without copyright. Look for “public domain license” or " SIL Open Font License" (see SIL Open Font License ).

I use for a start often the DejaVu font family (see https://dejavu-fonts.github.io )
