Best practices for multiple weights

Is there a best practice to create a font family with multiple weights in Illustrator? I understand that you can create a “new style” but does that truly retain all of the metrics; is there any recommendations for setting up the faces for each new style?

I am also very interested in this request.
I have not yet had any experience with multiple weight fonts, so I would love to learn from this!
How is your current workflow for that @designomatt?

Creating new font styles will indeed only retain the vertical metrics: https://help.fontself.com/en/articles/885179-font-families

But if you want to match the spacing and kerning metrics for glyphs, you can import such metrics from one font to another: https://help.fontself.com/en/articles/2104949-import-spacing-kerning
