Change unicode character descriptions

Hello,
I want to create an icon font with more than a thousand icons. Is it possible to change the characater descriptions of the unicode characters? For instance: “U+0024: Dollar sign” to “U+0024: Adjustable footrest”. That way we can search them in Character Map.
