Switching an alternate to become the primary character

Is there a simple method that allows the of switching of an alternate to become the primary character? e.g. ‘a alt2’ becomes ‘a‘ and vice versa. Trying to avoid deleting characters and having to kern all the pairs they belong to again.

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

There is a simple and quick way to swap “a” and “a.alt”:

  1. load the character set in FontSelf Maker
  2. double-click on the name of “a.alt1” and rename it (to a name not yet used, here “z”) - blue
  3. double-click on the name of “a” and rename it (to a name not yet used, here “y”) - red
  4. double-click on the name of “z” and rename it to “a” - blue
  5. double-click on the name of “y” and rename it to “a” - red, then the question automatically comes up whether it should be an alternative.
  6. save the character set (with new a name).

Hi, and thank you!

I did consider this method, but will this affect all the pairs that the particular character are assigned to? I’m trying to avoid kerning all the pairs again.
